Counselling FAQ's - Horizon Counselling Limerick
  • Horizon Counselling and psychotherapy are a service based in Limerick. The ethos is about changing the way people approach their mental health and help them tackle life’s challenges by providing accessible and affordable care.

  • I work from a humanistic and integrative approach with adolescents age 16+ and adults of all ages. I have trained in a number of approaches including person centered, psychodynamic and cognitive behavioral therapy. I draw on these approaches as appropriate to the client. I work in private practice and as a sessional psychotherapist with ASD Ireland working with adults with autism or parents of autistic children.  Although, I am trained in many disciplines of therapy research has shown that having a good fit between the therapist and client is more important than the specific therapy type. Therefore, we will work to develop trust in the relationship and ensure that you feel comfortable with the therapy approach being used.

  • Each individual and circumstance is unique. Most patients will benefit from making a commitment to weekly counselling sessions. 50 minutes is allotted for the weekly therapy session. I have both long-term and short-term clientele. Everyone is different, and the length of your attendance will depend on your particular struggles, the amount of change needed, the difficulty of the problem, and most importantly your dedication to the change. Therapy is not a quick fix, even if you start to feel better after a few sessions. The time you put into therapy will benefit you for a long time.

  • In accordance with GDPR, confidentiality is upheld. According to the IAHIP and IACP code of ethics, as well as the Children First Guidelines, this entails that client records remain completely confidential, with the only exceptions being in cases where there is a risk to yourself or others. This will be explained further during our first session.

  • The therapist is a member of the Irish Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapists. He is a pre accredited member working towards full accreditation.

  • This is dependent on your insurance company and not something Horizon Counselling would be part of.  It is up to you to discuss this with your insurance company.

We cannot change our past but we can change how we react to it, so it no longer has the power to affect how we live in the present.
